A quote from the old missionary in Fitzcarraldo.  I think that helps to explain why Fitzcarraldo got along so well with the natives that everyone else feared.  His dream to bring the opera to the Peruvian jungle seems much more real to him than the madness of navigating treacherous waters and pulling a 300-ton steamship up the side of a hill in an attempt to reach unreachable rubber tree territory.

How did I end up watching two movies that involve ice production in the same weekend?  Last night I saw Cold Weather at the Belcourt, and the film was preceded by Keegan DeWitt, the composer of the film’s score, performing a portion of the score live.  That’s how you spend a Friday night.
